Day Cruise Around San Diego Harbor with USS Carl Vinson
Short cruise today around San Diego Harbor. We’d planned to head out to sea but visibility was low and there were military boats on watch throughout the harbor.
On our way out to the open ocean from Shelter Island (the original plan) one of the military craft hailed us to let us know the USS Carl Vinson was on approach to the harbor and we should stay clear of the main channel. No prob.
However, given the low visibility and huge aircraft carrier coming in, I decided to turn around, leaving the open sea to our stern, and make a harbor cruise of the day. So we motored to Coronado Bridge, back past the USS Midway, and returned to Kona Kai Marina – where we keep our boat.
Hope and I were there, along with Claudia and Rudy, Hope’s mom and her husband.
I snapped the photo of the USS Carl Vinson at the top of this post as we made our way back to Shelter Island from near the Coronado Bridge. If you look closely, you can see the fighter jet on the rear flight deck.
